Origin Fertility Care

Counselling

We understand that for many people assisted conception can be the end of a long and difficult journey of trying to conceive and this can often be an emotional and trying time.

Any member of our staff will be happy to discuss with you any aspect of your treatment or any concerns you may have. However, we also have a trained counsellor who will be happy to give you independent support.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act (1991) recommends that counselling should be available to all patients undergoing infertility treatment. It is purely voluntary, and in no way implies that a person is unable to cope with their problems.

At Origin a full time, professional and confidential counselling service is available to all patients before, during and after treatment. Your relationship with the counsellor is confidential and Origin’s counselling service is intended for the wellbeing and reassurance of our patients and is free of charge.

Why Counselling?
Infertility can cause enormous stress and emotional pain. It may result in a couple experiencing conflicting emotions such as anger, envy, depression and fear.

Most of us expect to be able to have children and when we find we are having difficulties we can lose confidence and self esteem. Expressing painful feelings can often help to relieve the pain and counselling allows us to do this in an environment where you will never be judged.

Counselling can be helpful at any stage, both during and after treatment. Sometimes people just need to talk about how they feel. It can be helpful to talk with someone who is not involved in your treatment and who can help you explore the important issues in an impartial, non- judgemental way.

The HFEA require that all couples donating or using donated sperm, eggs or embryos receive implications counselling prior to commencement of treatment.

When Can I See a Counsellor?
Origin provides a full-time professional counselling service, free to all patients before, during and after treatment. You can come once or many times and you can see a counsellor as a couple or individually. You can make an appointment to see our counsellor via reception.
